Battleship Cove at Sunset

Battleship Cove ships and bridge at sunset

Battleship Cove in Fall River, Massachusetts, is a spectacular place for a sunset photo shoot. Partially situated beneath the Braga Bridge and adjacent to Fall River Heritage State Park, Battleship Cove traces its origins to the wartime crew of the WWII battleship U.S.S. Massachusetts (BB-59). That is the ship partially lit in the background to the right, while anchored by the bridge is the destroyer U.S.S. Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. (DD-850).

Now a non-profit maritime museum and war memorial, Battleship Cove offers numerous vantage points from which to shoot. On this particular evening, I chose the top of a nearby hill. It gave me the angle I desired to capture not only the dramatic sky and bridge, but also the boardwalk, benches and railing.

As an interesting side note, Battleship Cove is also home to the historic 1920 Lincoln Park Carousel. Completely restored and relocated here to Fall River, the carousel now enjoys the shelter of a new pavilion.

If you’re ever passing through Fall River, Massachusetts, Battleship Cove is worth a stop.
