Shalin Liu Performance Center

The View is Heavenly From The Ocean

The Shalin Liu Performance Center is a breathtaking venue both visually and acoustically. Now home to Rockport Music, this state-of-the-art concert hall is everything a music lover could want — and more!

Music and More!

As described on the Rockport Chamber Music Festival website, “The performance center, designed to showcase chamber music, is the home of Rockport Music’s signature presentation, the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, which includes over 20 concerts, as well as pre-concert lectures, open rehearsals, and free events for families. To appeal to a broad range of tastes, the center also hosts a new and diverse series of classical, jazz, folk, world and pop music concerts; HD broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera and England’s National Theatre; and a series of classic and independent films.”

The Glass Wall

What I love most about the design of the Shalin Liu Performance Center is its rear glass wall. This magnificent feature gives the audience a scenic view of the ocean. As sailboats leisurely glide by, a colorful sunset can be a spectacular visual feast right from your seat. There’s nothing better than a beautiful ocean view — except for one enhanced by a live musical soundtrack.

Divine Inspiration

On the day I took this shot, I walked out on the stone breakwater that protects a small harbor near the Shalin Liu. I wanted to view the performance center from the ocean side.

The clouds were everything a photographer could want. The glass wall was the perfect mirror for the sky. From the top of the breakwater I studied the entire scene in front of me. Then I saw “them” and knew I had found a divinely inspired location from which to shoot.

Framed by majestic church steeples standing tall on either side, the Shalin Liu Performance Center is indeed a heavenly view from the ocean.
