The Sedgwick Gardens at Long Hill

March 25, 2013

Hello Spring!

Although Old Man Winter refuses to let go of New England, I embrace the arrival of Spring with thoughts of the Sedgwick Gardens at Long Hill in Beverly, Massachusetts. This Trustees of Reservations property is a sight to be seen!

A Bit of Long Hill History

The 114-acre Long Hill estate has been renowned for its gardens for nearly a century — all thanks to TWO women named Mrs. Sedgwick. Comprised of separate and distinct outdoor ‘rooms,’ the Sedgwick Gardens surround a grand Federal Style Brick House that was once the Sedgwick family’s retreat.

Visitors are welcome to explore the surrounding protected woodlands, made easy by a 1.2 mile loop trail. Points of interest include an apple orchard, meadow, children’s garden and an organic vegetable farm.

Long Hill is open daily, year-round, from 8am to 5pm. Peak bloom is typically May and June. Guided tours are offered in spring, summer, and fall.
